Today, I wanted to go over why it is essential to get regular trims and the 5 signs you need a trim . I used to be the kind of person that thought that trims wouldn’t do me any good. I would rarely trim my hair. As a result, my hair suffered, and my ends always looked unhealthy and chewed up. But I was also always focusing on the length of my hair and not the health. This is what I was doing wrong.
In 2020, I decided to get more serious about my hair and watch Youtube videos on getting your hair healthy again. This seemed like a vigorous cycle that I would always go through. But I noticed that I wasn’t trimming my hair regularly, and there was one YouTuber I was watching that had the most healthy ends. So I dug deeper and found that she periodically trims her hair and thought it imperative to do so.
I would ask myself previously if I should continue to trim my hair while it was growing out. Right now, I am trying to grow my hair to bra-strap length, and to be honest. I don’t think that there is a way to do this without trimming your hair.
The ends of your hair are the oldest part of your hair and therefore need the most attention. They are going to break and get dry. That’s why you should trim your hair at least twice a year. I have started to get into the habit of trimming my hair twice a year to make sure that I am not over trimming my hair.
You want to give your hair time to grow and, at the same time, take good care of your ends to avoid breakage and improve damaged hair . So that the next time you are due for a trim, you only end up removing a small amount.
The tools involved in trimming your hair can include a handheld mirror, a fine-toothed comb, elastics, and scissors. You may be wondering what kind of scissors you should be using. I wanted to mention that you should not be using any old scissors-like school scissors or office scissors.
You need to invest in a good pair of scissors. Because of COVID-19, I am limited in the option of getting a new pair from Sally’s, which is my regular place to go for hair shears. The only option at the time was Walmart, and I didn’t even think that they would have hair scissors. But, low and behold, I found them in the hair accessory section. They had the Goody hair brands hair shears for only $15.00.
I thought that I would be spending at least $30.00 on a pair of scissors for the hair, but I got them much cheaper. So if you are looking for a great pair of inexpensive hair scissors, try the Goody brand. This is always a good option.
Now let’s get into the main topic of this blog post, and that is the five signs that you need a trim.
1. Your ends look chewed up/scraggly
Have you ever looked at the back of your head, through a handheld mirror, in your bathroom? It would help if you tried this because most likely, you will find the ends of your hair are not in good shape. I noticed this when I bought a handheld mirror and combed all of my hair against my back. I was in desperate need of a trim.
Using a handheld mirror is vital to see if you require a trim. However, looking at yourself in the mirror face forward is not the best option. Because you won’t be able to see the reality of what it looks like from the back.
If your ends look chewed up and are scraggly, take the chance and trim those ends. You will only benefit because if you hold onto those scraggly ends, your hair won’t look healthy. And that will defeat the whole purpose of growing your hair out because you want healthy ends.
2. Your Hair is Not Growing
If you notice that your hair is not growing at all and you haven’t trimmed your hair recently, this may be a sign that you need a trim. Something is wrong when you are noticing that your hair isn’t growing as time goes by.
It may be hard to believe that your hair didn’t grow at all, but it happens to many women. Taking care of your hair every day is essential, but you must remember that you should always have a fresh start by giving yourself a trim every season. This will promote more hair growth and a healthy head of hair.
Also, you may want to incorporate taking multivitamins daily to increase hair growth. Personally, I take the Nature’s Bounty gummy multivitamins and find that I regularly take them because they are gummies. You may want to try the gummies version if you don’t enjoy taking your vitamins daily, and trust me, the rest of your hair will grow out.
3. You Have Split Ends
If you look closely at your hair, you will see each of the strands. If you look closer, you will see the hair follicle and the hair strands. So one sure way to notice if your hair is healthy is to look at the follicle and see any breakage along the hair shaft.
Because I wasn’t getting my regular trims before I took things more seriously, I noticed that my hair ends were splitting. I wasn’t sure why it was breaking. I figured it must be because of the fact that I wasn’t trimming my hair regularly.
Now that I trim my hair more often, I notice that my ends aren’t split anymore. You should see if your ends are splitting as well. It is a sure way sign to tell if you require a trim and that you shouldn’t have any split ends when you are getting regular trims.
4. Your Hair is Uneven
Another way to tell if you require a trim is if one portion of your hair is longer than the other. I suffered from this as well and didn’t think that it was such a big deal. But when I took out my handheld mirror, I could see from the back that one side was longer than the other.
Hair may grow out faster in other areas of the scalp, and you want to keep this at bay by getting your hair regularly trimmed. I know that you may want to hold on to the length, but you should kiss those ends goodbye because it’s not a good look.
5. Your Hair Doesn’t Look Healthy
If your hair is damaged and lacks luster, this is another sign that you may need a trim. Also , you may find that missing out on regular trims can make your hair feel unhealthy. Daily uses of heating appliances wreak havoc on the hair and make your hair feel rough. You may not notice it right away, but eventually, you will notice that the hair is dull and just needs a trim after time has passed.
Taking care of your hair by regularly deep conditioning it, blowdrying with a heat-protectant is essential in keeping your hair healthy. You should also factor in trimming your hair which is another detrimental part of taking your hair.
If you don’t, your hair will suffer. And all that work you put into your hair will go down the drain, so start today and get a trim!
