7 Makeup tips for beginners that you should try
1. Set foundation and concealer with a setting powder
It’s always important to set your foundation & concealer with a setting powder. Back in the days when women would wear foundation, they would constantly have to touch up their makeup. The invention of setting powders has made touching up a thing of the past. In addition, setting powder allows your makeup, which is wet, to try dry and set so that they don’t transfer to your hands, hair, phone, etc.
It also makes your makeup last longer but, be careful not to mix the setting powder with translucent powder. Which is a loose powder used around the eye area to set your concealer after you apply concealer . My advice is to also use setting powder in these areas instead of translucent powder to avoid streaks or raccoon eyes left from the translucent powder.
2. Fill in and shape your eyebrows
This is an easy step that most usually looks past. However, it’s essential to fill your eyebrows because it has the power to completely change the look of the face by correcting minor flaws such as small eyes or eyes that are too far apart.
Filling in your eyebrows can also add length and definition to your face and can draw the eyes to the upper portion of the face to distract from imperfections on the bottom part.
3. Use a cream blush
I have recently switched from using regular blush to cream blush. Why? Because I find that I have more control in application and control how much I would like to use. There have been many new blush shades that are in a lot of drug store brands. But what I have found is that they are highly pigmented and would apply too much with a minor stroke with a blush brush.
Using cream blush allows for more control in distribution and is also recommended to people with aging skin and will give you a more youthful look and add dewiness to your skin that you lose with age.
Cream blush also adds moisture to your cheeks drawn out from cold air, so it keeps your face from looking dry.
4. Use concealer to set your eye makeup
If you want your eye makeup to stay put and set correctly, then you should prime your eyelids with concealer or eyeshadow primer on your lids. It is essential to do this so that you don’t have any fall out from the eyeshadow pigments that you are using
5. Concealer should be a shade lighter than your foundation
This is a no-brainer, but it should always be a shade or two lighter than your foundation when choosing a concealer. Thinking of this reminds me of when I just started to wear makeup and was a newbie. I had no clue what concealer was and felt that you have to wear foundation.
Also, I didn’t particularly appreciate how concealer would give me raccoon eyes, but I have gradually become used to the look of concealer and how it enhances your beauty.
6. Always wash off your makeup before going to bed
It is so important to wash your face every night after applying makeup. Not doing so can cause skin problems! I remember sleeping in my makeup and would wake up with pimples on my face! Not a pretty sight.
I love to remove my makeup at night and take care of my skin. This falls into the category of self-care, and I am all about it. You want to remove the makeup first with a cotton pad, makeup remover to remove the significant parts first, and then move on to a foaming cleanser.
Another tip is if you are applying mascara, or if you have coats of mascara , then you might want to use a makeup removing cloth to remove it at the end of the day, instead of washing your face right away. This helps to remove harder particles made by the mascara before washing your face.
Plus, always use a facecloth to dry your face that is only for your face. You don’t want to transfer bacteria and debris from a regular towel to your face.
7. Exfoliate your skin to have even skin to apply makeup
This also falls under the category of self-care, and I love talking about self-care. I love to exfoliate my skin with apricot scrub. Specifically, St. Ives Apricot scrub and I talk about this scrub in one of my very first blog posts. It is so cheap, and a little goes a long way.
I apply it like a face mask and scrub away, getting rid of dead skin cells and dirt.
If you’re looking for another great scent different from the original apricot scent, then you might want to try the St. Ives Oatmeal Scrub and Mask. It smells great and also does a great job of exfoliating your skin.
