Why Use Clarifying Shampoo and 5 Options Worth Your Time

March 13, 2023 Comment : 1

Why Use Clarifying Shampoo

Today, in this blog post, we will discuss why clarifying your hair is essential and why use clarifying shampoo. I thought that it would be a great topic to discuss because this topic is not a popular one in the hair community.

My story

I never used to clarify my oily hair until I learned all about silk pressing the hair. You must ensure the hair is thoroughly washed and clarified to achieve the best silk press. After watching several tutorials on achieving the best silk press, the hair stylist would always mention using a clarifying shampoo to get silky and bouncy results. I always like to do a hair detox twice a year to eliminate excess buildup that can accumulate from everyday styling and manipulation of the hair.

My favorite clarifying Shampoo is the Paul Mitchel clarifying shampoo 2. It smells like jolly ranchers and has a clear gel-like consistency.

So far, clarifying has helped my hair out a lot in my hair care regimen, and when you use clarifying shampoo I noticed less breakage after detangling my hair in the shower. Before clarifying, I would see large strands In my toothed comb and tiny strands. Now that I am clarifying, I no longer see this. I wish I knew the science behind how it stops breakage.

Why Use Clarifying Shampoo: How Often To Use Clarifying Shampoo?

Suppose you have never used a clarifying shampoo and want to know when to use one. I recommend using this kind of Shampoo whenever you are ready. You might even notice minor changes to your hair, as I did and in a good way.

The best time to use a clarifying shampoo is when you feel there is much buildup from styling products or notice that you have recently used many hair products. But I like to use a detox shampoo when I want the perfect silk press or when I know that I have used many hair products in my hair and have product buildup.

What are the benefits of using a clarifying shampoo and why use Clarifying Shampoo?

The primary purpose of using a clarifying shampoo is to clarify the hair. It removes product build up and also minerals from hard water. It would be best if you did not do it too often, as it can strip the hair. Clarifying the hair too often can cause dry hair or even brittle hair.

So, take need. You do not have to do it often. If you need advice to know how often you need to clarify may depend on a few factors.

These factors may include your hair texture and how often you wash your hair. If you have very thick and coarse hair and wash your hair often, you may want to clarify once a month or once every two months. However, if you are like me and tend to wash your hair every two weeks, you may only want to clarify maybe twice a year. I know my hair, and it does not need much clarifying, and I do not use that many products.

Why Use Clarifying Shampoo: Do I use A Regular Shampoo after clarifying?

A moisturizing shampoo after a clarifying shampoo is a good idea if your hair is too dry and if you hair is stripped of its natural oils. I do not need a moisture shampoo because I use a salon-quality shampoo by Paul Mitchell. Also, I have never tried following up with a moisturizing shampoo, but would consider trying this method in the future.

Is there Anything Else I should know?

Based on my personal experience, if you ask why use clarifying shampoo, I have noticed that clarifying Shampoo will not solve all of your hair buildup issues.

There was a time that I tried to style my hair into a slicked-back hairstyle. I followed a tutorial, and in the tutorial, they used beeswax to hold the hair down properly. You may not know this, but beeswax is very difficult to wash out because it is wax. I used dishwashing liquid to get it out. Shampoo did very little to remove the beeswax from the hair.

I also think the dishwashing liquid worked mainly because it had a built-in grease fighter made for removing grease. So take this advice, why use clarifying shampoo? and if you have a significant buildup, then clarifying with a clarifying shampoo may not work for you.

Why Use Clarifying Shampoo: Is it Safe to Use Clarifying Shampoo on Color Treated Hair?

You may be wondering: what does clarifying shampoo do to colored hair? If you have color-treated hair, you may want to hold off using a clarifying shampoo because clarifying shampoos tend to strip the hair causing your colored hair to fade.

So if your hair is color treated, there are still options for clarifying color-treated hair. Clarifying shampoo comes in different formats catering to different hair needs, so if you have color-treated hair, the best option would be to use a clarifying shampoo catered for color-treated hair. This way, your hair color will not fade over time. So why use clarifying shampoo? These are the reasons why.

Why Use Clarifying Shampoo: Products For Color-Treated Hair

loreal clarifying shampoo

Loreal Paris: Ever Pure-Clarifying Shampoo for Colored Hair

I have never tried this collection, but I have tried the Loreal Ever Pure Bond builder Shampoo and am a fan of this line. Because it helps to build bonds, it is like Olaplex hair products and is great for all hair types. Not to mention that it smells fantastic and smells like glycosmed hand lotion. BTW, you may also be wondering : is olaplex a clarifying shampoo? and it is not.

Also, another note is that this entire line is only catered to color-treated hair, but I still use it anyway.

clarifying shampoo brands

Shea Moisture – African Black Soap deep cleansing shampoo and hair mask

what does clarifying shampoo do to colored hair

Shea Moisture – Bamboo charcoal deep cleansing shampoo

I have yet to try any Shea Moisture clarifying shampoo brands. However, I would like to because it is designed for natural hair textures and 4a hair type, (which is my hair type). 1 Also like that the bamboo charcoal clarifying Shampoo is grey and reminds me of bentonite day. You can pair these with the best conditioner after clarifying shampoo for best results.

Paul Mitchel The shampoos – Clarifying Shampoo

Right now, anyone of these clarifying shampoos is excellent! Right now it is one of the best clarifying shampoo in the market. Nevertheless, I would consider trying something new because I no longer use the super skinny serum. Long story short, I still get frizz after using the serum, and I am getting better results with the Moroccan oil concentrate serum. This has made me to believe that other hair products are made superior to Paul Mitchel products.

On the other hand, I still love their clarifying Shampoo after all these years. As I said earlier, these shampoos smell like jolly ranchers. Furthermore, they do the job. Pair with dry shampoo for optimal results!
